It is almost a rite of passage

Almost every girl has had a diary.  The diary may not have been a masterpiece although it was an intricately woven tapestry of her life.  It is almost a rite of passage, to have a diary and keep away from the prying eyes of a nosey parent or bratty sibling.  So what do you tell the next little girl about what belongs to the insides of her diary?

Of course, there is the writing that belongs in the diary.  Written thoughts about current crushes, secret ambitions, feelings of frustration towards parents, teachers and the world in general and any other private feelings should make an appearance of the pages of a diary.  But do not just stick to words; if possible; turn the diary into a small scrapbook.  Include trinkets like ticket stubs from a beloved movie or a movie that was not so great but the person you went with is what made the movie memorable.  Your first flower you ever received, a leaf that was just too beautiful to leave on the ground, or even a blade of grass from your favorite spot in the woods.

There are no rules when it comes to what goes into a diary but whatever goes in will undoubtedly be personal to you in some way.  You may not keep your diary forever and read it years down the road but in case you do; make sure you have recorded the memories by not only the written word but by as many visuals as you can.
